Catherine Bastianel and the Improvie Adventure – Take Control Now Podcast
In this fourth episode of the Take Control Now podcast, I had the pleasure of welcoming Catherine Bastianel, founder of Improvie. Together, we talked about an unconventional life path, re-entering the workforce after 15 years dedicated to family, and building an original practice that blends personal development, theatre and energy work.
Who is Catherine Bastianel?
After training as a commercial employee, Catherine chose to dedicate nearly 15 years to raising her family. When she returned to the job market, she faced many obstacles before landing an administrative role. Gradually, her experiences pushed her toward a deeper calling: working with people.
Today, she supports individuals through her unique method, which combines:
- NLP (neuro-linguistic programming),
- acting techniques and theatrical improvisation,
- mediumship and energy work.
From stay-at-home mum to entrepreneur
👉 First bold choice: devoting her younger years to her children — a role she embraces as a genuine full-time job. 👉 Second step: re-entering the workforce, challenging after so many years away, but a journey of self-rediscovery. 👉 Third turning point: discovering theatre and improvisation, which helped her overcome shyness and became cornerstones of her current practice.
"I don't know where I'm going, but I'm going there."
The birth of Improvie
In 2020, Catherine took the leap and officially launched Improvie, her independent practice. Her goal: to help people find their own fulfilment by drawing on their inner resources and the power of the present moment.
She advocates a different approach:
- Embracing uncertainty as a driving force,
- Using improvisation as a tool for everyday life,
- Trusting your intuition to move forward.
Her philosophy and advice
- Thrive by owning every part of yourself, including the darker sides.
- Turn setbacks into experiences to grow from.
- Live in the present moment and accept that you can't control everything.
- Dare to come out of your shell: shyness doesn't have to be permanent.
"Failure doesn't exist. Every experience is an opportunity to learn."
Inspirations and resources
- Mentor: Jean-Marie Muller, therapist and "modern-day shaman".
- Favourite films: The Fifth Element by Luc Besson and Doctor Strange.
- Recommended book: Intuicio by Laurent Gounel.
- Favourite quote: "God helps those who help themselves."
